APPLICANTS / STUDENTS

The NJIT EmployME! program is committed to providing the highest quality training and education in information technology to underserved populations. Participation in this course will prepare interested trainees with the skills and career development guidance necessary to help them gain entry and advanced level jobs in information technology in New Jersey.

The program runs 18 weeks at 40 hours per week, and is conducted at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, New Jersey campus. Trainees closely work with an instructor in a state-of-the-art computer lab especially equipped with appropriate assistive technology tools. Trainees learn:

  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Business Writing and Grammar
  • Listening Skills
  • Electronic Communications
  • Office Productivity (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop)

Depending on needs and aptitudes, trainees can select from three tracks of study:

Track One

Web Technology and Desktop Publishing including NJIT Certifications Topics include: Web Design Concepts (page layout, usability, navigation, graphics, and multimedia), Introduction to HTML, Using Dreamweaver MX, Using Macromedia Flash MX.

Track Two

Open Source UNIX Administration including NJIT and National Certification Topics include: FreeBSD, File Security, Visual (vi) Editor, The Berkeley Fast File System, NFS.

Track Three

Office Generalist Technology – Certification
Students learn in depth about the applications that are typically used in most office settings such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.

Tuition

Tuition for the program is $4,000. and is the responsibility of the student. -Participation in the program may be partially or fully funded through tuition allocations from an agency, such as Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, One-Stop Centers (WIA), or other referring agencies. All applicants are encouraged to speak with their referring or sponsoring agency to explore the processes and procedures for gaining entry into the EmployME! program and the tuition reimbursement options available.
