A dedicated team of career professionals is on hand to work with EmployME! students and help them in career development and in a workplace readiness program that prepares persons with disabilities for employment. While our focus is web technology, desktop publishing, and open source UNIX administration, we assist graduates with attaining employment in multiple business settings. We hope that you take full advantage of our services and programs.
Each EmployME! class is assigned a career advisor who helps students make informed career choices and better decisions; become more aware of interests, skills, values, and personality in relationship to career and improve professional skills. The Career Advisor meets with students weekly as part of the overall classroom instruction schedule. At the completion of this course participants will:
One of the key factors that employers look for is related work experience. EmployME! graduates with related work experience typically receive more employment interviews and offers than those who graduate with no related work experience at all. EmployME! offers many opportunities for students to gain experience as an intermediate steps to procuring full time employment.
EmployME! in conjunction with NJIT Career Development Services hosts multiple career fairs each academic year to provide students and EmployME! with opportunities to meet with employers for full-time, part-time jobs and internships. Over 140 quality companies attend each fair. Visit the career fair page for more information about upcoming and past career fairs.
All EmployME! students are required to create an account with CDS On-Line, the NJIT Career Services Job Posting site. This account will allow you to view and apply to full-time, part-time, and apprenticeship positions and gain access to information about career services’ events and information sessions. The site is easily accessible from the CDS website at www.njit.edu/cds. Your Career Advisor will assist you through all phases of your account set-up.
A job search network support group offers on-going support for EmployMe! graduates who commit and dedicate their time to job search. The group is involved in a range of activities such as sharing resources and knowledge, supporting each other in completing application forms, enhancing resumes and preparing for interviews and meeting with prospective employers.
